Halswell Learning Tree is a family owned and operated early childhood centre. Located in Halswell, Christchurch, we aim to provide the highest level of quality early childhood education and care. Halswell Learning Tree caters for children from 0 to 6 years of age in a nurturing and stimulating learning environment.
At Halswell Learning Tree, we provide a safe, nurturing, educational environment that celebrates and embraces diversity. We provide a well-resourced environment that lays the foundation to support each child's social, emotional, physical, cognitive, intellectual, and creative development.
Our Vision
Our vision is to create a 'home away from home' environment where children are at the centre of everything we do. Our safe and loving environment encourages children to explore and discover the world around them. We value the importance the role of play has on children's learning and development.
We want to be recognised by our community as providing trusting, affordable, and high quality care and education for our children. Our environment will foster and support the individual potential and well-being of each child. We aim to provide experiences to encourage children to develop and understanding of kaitiakitanga as we support them to value, respect, and care for the environment.
We will provide an environment that is calm, inviting, respectful, inclusive, safe, and promotes learning and development. Our dedicated and passionate teaching team role model loving relationships, work collaboratively with children and their whānau, build on children's interests, and support children to be confident and competent learners.
Our Philosophy
At Halswell Learning Tree we aim to provide children with a high quality learning envrionment that encourages them to become life-long learners. We recognise that children are unique individuals and it is our responsibility to provide experiences that nurture all aspects of their development. This includes a safe and supportive environment for children to explore and learn.
We believe that children learn best when their interests are incorporated and through play. Therefore, we provide children with opportunities to participate in structured activities and to make their own choices through free play.
Our teachers work alongside the children and in partnership with families to provide high quality education. We realise the importance of building positive relationships with children and their whānau. We encourage and welcome parents to share their aspirations for their children and have a variety of different ways parents can be involved in the programme.
We appreciate the bicultural heritage that belongs to all New Zealanders and incorporate these aspects into daily practice. We aim to provide a welcoming environment that embraces and promotes children's own cultures. Our curriculum reflects the four principles of the early childhood curriculum Te Whāriki; empowerment, holistic development, family and community, and relationships.
"The best decision we made was to send our wee girl to halswell learning tree! She has grown so much since she has been there. As a parent sending your child to a preschool can be a huge thing to get used to but not once have I been worried about leaving Kaitlyn since she has been enrolled. The teachers treat the kids as if they were there own and provide them the learning aids that the children require to expand there knowledge and find there own way in the world. You are always made to feel welcome and the teachers make the effort to get to know each parent personally and not treat them as a number. There is always new toys and activities for the children to play with along with numerous fun field trips. It's easy to see why more families want to send there children along to the learning tree, the children are always happy when you go there and constantly have smiles on there wee faces 😀 We will be sad when it's time for Kaitlyn to move onto "big girl" school!!" - Sarah
