Bottle Lake Preschool Kindergarten and Daycare in Parklands, Christchurch
Bottle Lake Preschool in Parklands, has gained respect within the community of families who have used our preschool, nursery and kindergarten services over the past three years.
Located in Parklands, our centre is a short drive from New Brighton and Burwood. We pride ourselves on our strong professional relationships with our families and this enhances our ability to provide the best learning environment for your child.
Our kindy and daycare centre is well equipped with resources and this helps to support our greatest asset which is our trained teachers and support staff, many of whom have been teaching at the centre for a number of years. Our passionate daycare teachers show constant enjoyment in their work and build strong relationships with the children. We pride ourselves on our strong professional relationship’s with whanau and tamariki this was commended in our current ERO Review.
Our Parklands early learning centre features three age-specific rooms – nursery, preschool and kindergarten. The children and families of our communities experience an environment where their needs and aspirations are valued.
We believe that children learn through play and experience; teachers are facilitators of this learning, but the children are the leaders.
Taihua | Nursery
0 – 2 years
In our Nursery, we provide a nurturing and caring ‘home away from home’ environment to ensure that our littlest ones feel safe and secure in their own space, as they begin to explore and discover the world around them.
Kūkūwai | Preschool
2 – 3.5 years
Our Toddler Room also provides space for our curious Toddlers within an intimate small group size. We support childhood learning with a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and supportive of all children during this age of discovery and wonder.
Ngahere | Kindy
3.5 – 5 years
Our Preschool Room offers our older children opportunities throughout the day for children to be involved in contributing to the curriculum helping to make decisions about what is set up, and sharing their ideas. Teachers work alongside the children to set up an environment which is challenging, provides curiosity and active exploration.
Our Philosophy
At Bottle Lake Preschool our core values are compassion, communication, change and citizenship. We believe these values reflect the life skills which help to create a truly holistic and global citizen who has developed a positive attitude towards learning, a thirst for knowledge and respect, empathy and acceptance for all cultures. We strive to teach our tamariki each of these values in meaningful and authentic ways.
Strong relationships are built on good communication and positive relationships are always at the heart of our work. We provide an open-door policy where parents/caregivers/whānau are encouraged and welcomed to discuss their priorities regarding their tamaiti with kaiako in a respectful and reciprocal manner.
Our programme is play based, inspired by the interest of tamariki. We embrace the principle of ako, ensuring that the contribution of all learners, kaiako and tamariki, is valued and all can participate to their full potential.
Whangaia te manu o te ngahere ki te miro, nōna te ngahere
Whangaia te tamaiti ki te mātauranga, nōna te Ao!
Feed the bird of the forest the miro berry and he will own the forest
Feed the child knowledge and he will own the world
Sustainability
We introduce sustainable habits and practices to our children by encouraging them to reduce, reuse and recycle. We also keep worm farms and grow our own veges in our very own Centre garden.
Using Storypark significantly reduces the amount of paper used for forms and newsletters.
We use local suppliers and partners where possible, supporting the sustainability of businesses in our community.
We believe every little bit helps to ensure sustainability for our precious future generations!
Connecting Children with Nature
The natural world is a giant, open-ended learning laboratory. Children are innate scientists and love to experience the sights, scents, sounds, and textures of the outdoor environment. At Bottle Lake Preschool, we are always looking for learning opportunities that embrace nature. Through free play, children spontaneously connect with nature right here in our own playground and outdoor environment. For example, children are often busy building masterpieces with dirt or sand, searching for twigs and sticks, watching worms wriggle through the soil, gazing at clouds, jumping in puddles, or listening to the birds sing.
Our toddlers and pre-schoolers thrive on using their imagination as they become ‘explorers’ in their own environment, doing this means they are encouraged to investigate and learn names of animals, insects, plants, and their purposes on our earth. We love seeing the children learn to care for their centre environment, their community, and the great big world we live in!
